Amplify POC Cape Cod
Meet Brandi Williams, owner of 606 "Saks" Thrift Ave on Main Street in Hyannis who spoke with Amplify’s Rachael Devaney. Check the end of this post for how to see more of this incredible shop.
From the time she was 15 years old, Brandi Williams has been cruising yard sales, estate sales, and flea markets to collect clothing and accessories.
“The older the better,” Williams says. “I love pieces that are worn in with character: t-shirts with holes in them, jeans that have patches, leather that’s worn in and soft to the touch … those are all my favorites.”
From vintage leather jackets to fashionable purses to fun-filled accessories including jewelry, sunglasses, and classically trendy shoes, sneakers and boots: Thrift Ave is infused with a cool and classic aesthetic.
With a flair for finding funky pieces, Williams has also filled the store with art pieces, retro and classic records, old-time hats, and even nostalgic-centered stereos and tape decks. And although there is wide-ranged pricing and a vibe that can appeal to any age, Williams, who grew up in California, said her customers are mostly curious and excited to discover the treasures Williams routinely finds in and around Cape Cod.
“Everything in the store is literally hand-picked by me and I think I have done pretty well keeping it exciting for myself and for my customers,” she says. “There’s always something new and my regulars know they can always find good quality vintage and second-hand items.”
Since opening in May of 2019, Williams has enjoyed winding her way into the heart of the Hyannis Main Street small-business community, and says she has been able to develop her own store based on the excitement of what the other shops have to offer.
“I like driving down Main Street to see what other businesses are doing,” Williams says. “Being located here made me realize that we all need to be familiar with what’s going on around us because we are offering a full experience to our customers. Hyannis is a destination and we want to make people feel like this is the best place on earth.” -- Rachael Devaney
